July 7, 2010. 4th of July. We're on vacation in Ocean City, NJ. We always come down for the 4th of July. Every year we watch the parade and remark that some year we should participate. About a month ago we decided that this year we were going to do it. We tie dyed red, white, and blue shirts and practiced "You're a Grand Old Flag" for the occasion. While it was very hot, in the high 90s, we had a great time.
It was while we were lining up for the parade that we learned there were to be prizes in various categories. After the parade we packed up our instruments and headed on our way home. As we rounded a corner and passed the local playground we saw a group of people gathered around. It occurred to us that it might have something to do with the parade and those prizes we had heard about. John and Andrew ran over to find out what was going on and arrived just in time to hear our names announced as 2nd place winners in the family category. So now we have a beautiful :) trophy to remember a fun time in the parade.
Many thanks to our Allenberry friends, Chris, Megan, Jonathan, and Allie, for accompanying us on the route. Chris gets the 2nd mile award for running back to the beach house just before the parade was to start, all because John broke a guitar string. He also took some great video of us all throughout the parade route. The other three helped to pull the wagon, keep track of Eden and HopeAnne, and pass out candy and business cards. What a great team!
